12 Parts That Make No Sense

The following post contains SPOILERS for The Marvels — insofar as it discusses things we cannot spoil because we cannot explain them. But it at least goes into the plot of the movie. So beware.

The Marvels — Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) — have their own team tagline: “Higher, further, faster.” And it certainly suits this trio of Marvel superheroes, who venture off into the deepest recesses of the galaxy in order to stop a vengeful Kree warlord named Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton) from destroying Earth and assorted other corners of the cosmos.

You will note, however, that these heroes like to go “Higher, further, faster” and not necessarily “clearer” — which is kind of a shame. The Marvels goes higher, further, and faster for about 100 minutes (it’s the shortest MCU movie to date) and it moves so quickly that it might not be until after it’s over that viewers start to contemplate the fact that while it is full of energy, big adventure, eye-popping visuals, and some very charming performances, its plot contains more holes than outer space after Dar-Benn uses one of her Quantum Bands.

Hence the list below, which contains 12 of the plot holes or generally confusing aspects of the story that I am still stuck on a couple days after I saw The Marvels. (You can read my full review of the film here.) If you things you’ve got these mysteries solved, you’re more than welcome to let us know on social media.
