3 Agatha Christie Mystery Movies Confirmed to Be in the Works, More Could Happen

At least three new Agatha Christie mystery movies are in the works from 20th Century Studios.

Novelist Agatha Christie is known for writing a large number of murder mystery novels such as Murder on the Orient Express, And Then There Were None, The Mousetrap, and more. Her works have been adapted into feature films many times, with notable examples being 1974’s Murder on the Orient Express starring Ingrid Bergman, 1978’s Death on the Nile starring Maggie Smith, and many more.

More recently, Kenneth Branagh has directed three Christie adaptations: 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express, 2022’s Death on the Nile, and 2023’s A Haunting in Venice. Branagh played Hercule Poirot in all three films, which were released through 20th Century Studios (Murder on the Orient Express was technically released through 20th Century Fox, as Disney acquired the company following the film’s release).

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios’ Steve Asbell confirmed that at least three more Christie mysteries are being adapted into movies, while more could be in the works beyond that.

What did Steve Asbell say about the new Agatha Christie mystery movies?

“More, yes. We have, And Then There Were None. We have Witness for the Prosecution. We’re doing Miss Marple,” he said. “There are a bunch of other titles that we’re working on. We have a very close relationship with the estate.”

The And Then There Were None adaptation was first announced in 2020; however, there have been little to no updates about the project since then. Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel, who wrote the screenplay for Kristen Stewart’s Seberg movie, were announced to be working on the script at the time.

Director Billy Wilder previously adapted Witness for the Prosecution into a 1957 movie starring Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich, Charles Laughton, and Elsa Lanchester. The story revolves around a man being accused of killing a woman who named him as the main beneficiary in her will.

Miss Marple, meanwhile, is a detective character who, like Poirot, appears in a number of Christie’s works. She has previously been played by Margaret Rutherford, Angela Lansbury, Joan Hickson, Geraldine McEwan, and Julia McKenzie, among others, in various projects.
