Adam Driver confirms that he’s done with Star Wars, which would make The Rise of Skywalker his last appearance as Kylo Ren.

After playing Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, Adam Driver has confirmed that he’s done with the Star Wars franchise.

They’re doing stuff, but not with me. I’m not doing it anymore,” Adam Driver said on the Smartless podcast. When he was asked if this was because Kylo Ren’s story had concluded, the actor responded, “Yeah.

It’s not entirely surprising to hear that Driver is leaving Star Wars behind, but you never know what the future may bring. Daisy Ridley is set to return for a new Star Wars movie which takes place 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. “The First Order has fallen, the Jedi are in chaos — there’s even a question of how many exist anymore — and Rey’s building the New Jedi Order, based on the text that she was given and that Luke imparted on her,” said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. The new film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy from a script by Steven Knight.

If Adam Driver ever does return to Star Wars, it would likely be as a Force Ghost, which wouldn’t have been possible if the Sequel Trilogy had stuck to the original plan of not redeeming his character. “I had an overall arc that in mind that [JJ Abrams] wanted to do,” Driver said. “His idea was that [Kylo’s] journey was the opposite journey of Vader, where Vader starts the most confident and the most committed to the dark side. And then by the last movie, he’s the most vulnerable and weak. He wanted to start with the opposite. This character was the most confused and vulnerable, and by the end of the three movies, he would be the most committed to the dark side. I tried to keep that arc in mind, regardless if that wound up not being the journey anyway, because it changed while shooting. But I was still focused on that.

Adam Driver can currently be seen starring in Michael Mann’s Ferrari. You can check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray right here.
