Badlands Director Reveals Key Difference From Past Movies

Director Dan Trachtenberg has shed some more light on the upcoming Predator: Badlands, and revealed that the movie will focus more on the titular Predator in ways other entries have not.

Speaking to Empire Magazine in a recent interview, Trachtenberg said that the upcoming Predator movie will put the creature “front and center,” and will see it act as the protagonist of the film.

What did Dan Trachtenberg say about Predator: Badlands?

“The creature is front and centre, leading the charge,” Trachtenberg said. “He’s still badass, but there’s something there that touches you emotionally, too. Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting.”

Trachtenberg went on to say that the idea for the move came from trying to find a new way to push the franchise’s boundaries. Similar to his last outing, Prey, Trachtenberg said that the goal is to give fans a hero to root for that they rarely get to, and the result was having people root for the Predator this time around.

The director said, in full that their hope was to “find another essential piece of cinema that does what Prey did spiritually — pushing the franchise’s boundaries, letting us root for a hero we rarely get to root for — but in a different way. And that transformed into this big idea of rooting for the Predator,” said Trachtenberg.

Currently, not a lot is known about Predator: Badlands. The movie will star Elle Fanning, and is one of two new Predator movies Trachtenberg is working on. The other, which was developed in secret, is rumored to be an animated anthology film that will focus on the Predator fighting against warriors from various time periods.
