Comcast Credits Super Mario Bros. Movie & Theme Parks for Earnings Bump

Comcast reported its second-quarter 2023 earnings on Thursday. The cable and internet giant noted it saw big bumps in revenue from its theatrical division — a rise it attributes to The Super Mario Bros. Movie and subsequent theme parks.

Nintendo properties helped Comcast see a big rise in revenue

According to the company (via VGC), Comcast saw its theatrical revenue rise 65.9% year-over-year. The company credited the hit film with the rise. It grossed $1.3 billion in worldwide box office sales, becoming the second-highest-grossing animated film ever and still sitting as the highest-grossing film of 2023.

Elsewhere, Comcast also saw a 22% jump in its theme park revenue. The company also credited Nintendo, as the highly popular Super Nintendo World at Universal in Hollywood opened in 2023. Combined with that launch is a big jump in attendance at the Super Nintendo World at Universal Beijing and Universal Japan.

Comcast also reported on its earnings on the Peacock streaming service, which it says added 2 million subscribers in Q2. The streaming service now sits at about 24 million total subscribers. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to become available on the platform on August 3, 2023.
