Dr. Death season 2 trailer arrives to promote show’s December Peacock premiere

A full trailer has been released for Dr. Death season 2, which is set to begin streaming on Peacock in December

Edgar Ramirez (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) takes the lead in season 2 of the anthology series Dr. Death as surgeon Paolo Macchiarini, and the season will be making its premiere on the Peacock streaming service on December 21st. We saw a teaser trailer for this new batch of episodes last month, and with the premiere date just a few weeks away a full trailer has now arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.

Ramirez is joined in the cast by (This Is Us), Luke Kirby (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Ashley Madekwe (Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Gustaf Hammarsten (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo 2011), Rita Volk (Faking It), Judy Reyes (Succession), Jack Davenport (Ten Percent), Annika Boras (Succession), and Sandra Andreis (Snabba Cash).

In Dr. Death season 2, we’ll find that Paolo Macchiarini is a charming surgeon, renowned for his innovative operations that earn him the nickname ‘Miracle Man.’ When investigative journalist Benita Alexander approaches him for a story, the line between personal and professional begins to blur, changing her life forever. As she learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway across the world make shocking discoveries of their own that call everything about the ‘Miracle Man’ into question.

Moore plays investigative journalist Benita Alexander, “who falls in love with Ramirez’s Paolo Macchiarini before learning the truth about him.” Kirby takes on the role of Dr. Nathan Gamelli, “a cardiovascular surgeon working at a world class hospital in Sweden. He faces pressure after voicing doubts about Dr. Macchiarini’s groundbreaking surgeries.” Madekwe’s character is Dr. Ana Lasbrey, “a doctor at the institute. She joins Macchiarini’s team, hoping to fast-track her career in stem cell research.” Hammarsten plays Dr. Svensson, “a family man and researcher. He is running Macchiarini’s clinical trials on lab rats when alarm bells begin to sound.”

Like the first season, this season will consist of eight episodes. Directing duties were evenly split between Jennifer Morrison and Laura Belsey, with Morrison directing the first four episodes and Belsey directing the second half of the season. Patrick Macmanus served as showrunner, writer, and executive producer of Dr. Death season 1. He remains on board for season 2, executive producing through his company Littleton Road Productions, but fellow executive producer Ashley Michel Hoban is the showrunner and writer this time around.

Hoban had this to say: “The joy of an anthology series is the freedom to explore variations on a theme. Dr. Death is a show about systemic failures, and this season, these issues reach a global scale. Amid complex narratives, we’ve been fortunate to delve deeply into a story that, while entirely unique, remains surprisingly familiar, as it taps into a truly universal part of the human condition: illness. Even putting aside any recent global pandemics, we all know what it’s like to feel sick. It renders us vulnerable, small, in desperate need of help. A doctor we can trust. This pursuit of trust and truth is what ties our two stories together this season. Two stories that, on the surface, may not seem to have much else in common: Doctors in Sweden on the verge of a breakthrough. A journalist in New York falling in love. However, both revolve around individuals made to feel small. They’re about people standing up to something bigger, for something bigger, and how their seemingly small choices ripple out into the world to give power and voice to those who have been made to feel powerless and silenced. These are stories that you don’t think could happen to you, until you watch this season of Dr. Death. We truly hope you enjoy.
