Is HBO Max the Same as Max?

The upcoming week is an important one for the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streamer HBO Max, as it will officially be rebranded into Max on May 23. But what are the differences between HBO Max and Max? Is it just a matter of changing the streamer’s name? And what are the new movies and TV shows heading to Max? Here’s what you should know.

HBO Max vs. Max differences

The main difference between HBO Max and Max is the catalog of movies and TV shows.

Following the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger, the entertainment conglomerate felt the necessity to have its content available to stream in one place and not scattered through several streaming platforms. Eventually, it opted to merge HBO Max and Discovery Plus into Max, dropping both the “HBO” and “Plus” parts.

Still, the streamers’ fans shouldn’t fear as Max will still host all the HBO Originals, Warner Bros. films, Max Originals, the DC Universe, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in addition to the many Discovery Channel documentaries, all the content from HGTV, Food Network, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, TLC, ID, and more.

What new movies and TV shows are on Max?

Fans can watch Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Avatar: The Way of Water on Max.

The Shazam! sequel will be available on the streamer’s day launch, but fans have to wait until June 7 for Avatar 2. There is plenty of fresh content coming to Max in the next few days, including plenty of documentaries like Bama Rush, and some reality shows.

Here’s all of the content fans should expect to see on Max from launch through June 2023:
