Zack Snyder reveals that the unfinished anime series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas features a Rebel Moon character
For a while, Zack Snyder was building a cinematic universe for the Netflix streaming service that centered on his zombie movie Army of the Dead. The film was quickly followed by a prequel called Army of Thieves, a sequel was being written, and an anime series called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas was in the works. But Snyder has since shifted his focus over to building a multi-media universe around his upcoming Netflix sci-fi film Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (and its follow-up Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver). So Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas sits unfinished… and during an interview with Total Film magazine, Snyder revealed that Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon aren’t entirely separate. In fact, if Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas ever gets completed, we’ll be seeing a Rebel Moon crossover on the show!
Snyder told Total Film (with thanks to Games Radar for sharing the quote), “Army of the Dead has a pretty vast mythology that never made it into the movie. There’s actually a character from Rebel Moon in the Army of the Dead animated series that we never did. At one point in the show, they go through a portal into another dimension, and there are characters in that other dimension that they come across. In Rebel Moon, they’re in this bar, and one of the aliens is one of the characters from the animatic. So it’s definitely a shared universe.”
The Army of the Dead film took place after a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, where a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble: venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas was supposed to serve as an “origin story” for Scott (Dave Bautista) and highlight his rescue crew’s efforts to protect all they love during the first phases of the mysterious zombie outbreak in Vegas.
Dave Bautista, Ana De La Reguera, Tig Notaro, Omari Hardwick, and Ella Purnell all provided the voices of their Army of the Dead characters for the anime, and they were joined in the voice cast by Joe Manganiello, Christian Slater, Harry Lennix, Ross Butler, Anya Chalotra, Vanessa Hudgens, Yetide Badaki, Christina Wren, Monica Barbaro, Jena Malone, and Nolan North. The new characters’ names were Rose, Torrance, Boorman, Chen, Lucilia, Willow, Queen Meeru, Nicole, Meagan, Zeta, and Clemenson.
Jay Oliva served as showrunner on the series and was supposed to be directing two episodes, as would Snyder. Meduzarts Animation Studio were to handle the animation. Snyder and Oliva were also producing the show with Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Shay Hatten.
We’ll have to wait and see if they ever decide to finish Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. In the meantime, leave a comment below and let us know if you have any interest in seeing the show (and its Rebel Moon crossover).
Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire is set to start streaming on Netflix on December 22nd.
