Matlock Season 2 Renewal Ordered, CBS Issues Statement

CBS has officially ordered the Matlock Season 2 renewal for its latest legal drama based on the Andy Griffith-led show of the same name which lasted for nine seasons from 1986-1995. Following its broadcast debut a month ago, the reboot is currently Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with a Tomatometer rating of 100%.

What did CBS say about the Matlock Season 2 renewal?

“This reconceived MATLOCK was devised by Jennie Snyder Urman with a brilliant surprise plot twist, and we knew we had something very special the moment we saw the first episode brought to life by the incredibly talented Kathy Bates,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in a statement. “The audience reception and critical acclaim for it has been overwhelming. We can’t wait to get started on a second season.”

Matlock is created and executive produced by showrunner Jenny Snyder Urman. The reboot follows Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a brilliant septuagenarian, who, after achieving success in her younger years, decides to rejoin the workforce at a prestigious law firm. The cast also includes Skye P. Marshall as Olympia, Jason Ritter as Julian, David Del Rio as Billy, and Leah Lewis as Sarah.

The reboot is executive produced by Snyder Urman, Joanna Klein, Eric Christian Olsen, Kat Coiro, and Bates. This marks Bates’ first TV project after previously starring in American Horror Story: Apocalypse in 2018. It is a production by CBS Studios for the CBS Television Network.
