Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 9, titled “Escape from Planet Klongo,” featured a major reveal related to Sazz Pataki’s mysterious murder, the latest season’s overarching mystery. Who is Sazz’s protege? Did Marshall kill Sazz?

Here is a recap of Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 9, answering all your questions.

Who is Sazz’s protege at the end of Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 9?

Sazz Pataki’s protege is Rex Bailey. He has been using the alias Marshall while working as the scriptwriter of the Only Murders in the Building film adaptation.

Charles, Oliver, and Mabel initially believed that Glen Stubbins was Sazz Pataki’s protege. That was until they met a bartender while exiting the hospital, where they confronted Glen about Sazz’s murder. The bartender told them that Glen was not Sazz’s protege but that he was one of the three people who knew who it was, the other two being Sazz herself and film director Ron Howard.

The trio then plans to meet Ron Howard to ask him about the truth. Howard eventually meets Charles and Oliver at the latter’s favorite Chinese restaurant and reveals the truth about Rex/Marshall being Sazz’s protege after he shows them a picture.

Mabel, who meets Marshall at her apartment, also starts connecting the dots about his true identity when she comes across a beer case with an Only Murders in the Building movie script that has Sazz’s name on it. This happens just as Charles texts her what he learned from Howard.

Did Marshall kill Sazz in Only Murders in the Building Season 4?

It is currently unconfirmed if Marshall was the one who killed Sazz in Only Murders in the Building Season 4.

However, his facial expression when Mabel asks him about the script found in the beer case implies that he may know something about Sazz’s murder or could have been the one to have committed it.

Only Murders in the Building is currently streaming on Hulu.
