A poster designed by Creepy Duck has been unveiled for the folk horror film The Wait, from Rings director F. Javier Gutierrez
A couple months ago, we shared some first look images from The Waitthe latest film from F. Javier Gutiérrez, the director of the apocalyptic drama Before the Fall and Ringsa 2017 sequel to the 2002 horror remake The Ring. Now a poster for the film has been unveiled, and you can check it out at the bottom of this article.
Written and directed by Gutierrez, The Wait is described as being “a sinister folk horror tragedy that takes place in the dark, magic and forgotten Andalusian countryside — a place marked by ancestral traditions.” The film has the following synopsis: Eladio (Victor Clavijo), hunting estate keeper, takes a snippet from a veteran hunter. Weeks later, his whole life falls apart. What looked like the opportunity of a lifetime, turns into a macabre descent to hell when he finds out that his misfortune might not be entirely by chance.
Clavijo (The Ministry of Time) is joined in the cast by Ruth Díaz (The Fury of a Patient Man), Luis Callejo (The Boat), Manuel Moron (The Night of the Sunflowers), José Luis Rasero (Sky Rojo), Nico Montoya (bandolera), newcomer Moisés Ruiz, and Pedro Casablanc (The Burning Cold).
Gutiérrez’s own production company Unfiled Films is teaming up with Nostromo and Spal Films to bring The Wait into the world. The film will be screened at the fantasy film festival Sitges this October. (The 2023 edition of the festival is scheduled to run from October 5th through the 15th.)
As we noted when we shared the first look images, eleven years ago Gutiérrez signed on to direct a version of the reboot of The Crow that would have starred Luke Evans in the lead role. That didn’t work out, and the reboot has since been made with Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) at the helm and Bill Skarsgard in the lead. Last year, we also heard that Gutiérrez would be working on a supernatural thriller called home-school with TikTok celebrity Charli D’Amelio.
