After experiencing a rough patch post its Endgame era, the MCU is now gunning to make a roaring comeback with its upcoming projects. Having moved away from Jonathan Majors’ Kang, Marvel Studios has now replaced the interdimensional conqueror with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom as its new overarching antagonist. Despite Downey’s inclusion, several rumors have surfaced of late that seem to suggest the return of Thanos to the MCU.
Thanos is reportedly set to return to the MCU
According to recent speculations, the MCU is seemingly planning to bring back the Mad Titan in the foreseeable future.
The update was first shared by MyTimeToShineHello on X (formerly Twitter). In their post, the internet scooper stated that Thanos’ MCU return will take place “sooner than you think.” These claims were backed by Comic Book Movie, with the outlet insisting that the extraterrestrial villain would be coming back for Avengers: Secret Wars.

While Marvel Studios has yet to provide any confirmation, recent behind-the-camera developments seem to indicate that there might be some merit in the aforementioned rumor. According to Game Rant, Infinity War and Endgame co-writer Stephen McFeely has been roped in to script Avengers: Secret Wars.
Moreover, former MCU mainstays Joe and Anthony Russo are officially returning to helm the upcoming Avengers sequels. As such, the creative team behind Avengers 6 is already accustomed to handling the Titan dweller. Another aspect that seems to back the theory of Thanos’ return is his lore in the Marvel comics.
The Mad Titan famously featured in the 2015 comic book storyline, Secret Wars, where he faced off against Doctor Doom. In the pages, Thanos is forced to battle an enhanced version of Victor Von Doom, AKA God Emperor Doom. Despite his unparalleled abilities, Thanos ends up getting his skeleton ripped by Doom during Secret Wars.
At the time of writing, there is no official confirmation regarding Thanos’ speculated return to the MCU.
