Step Sisters is a feel-good narrative movie following Jamilah, a college senior hoping to gain admission into Harvard Law School. She is later asked by a professor to rehabilitate a group of disgraced white sorority sisters by teaching them how to step, a style of percussive dance that has its roots in African foot dancing and black sorority life.
Here’s how you can watch and stream Step Sisters via streaming services such as Netflix.
Is Step Sisters available to watch via streaming?
Yes, Step Sisters is available to watch via streaming on Netflix.
Ever since the trailer was released, the movie was in controversies. Step Sisters nudges the issue of cultural appropriation as it attempts to follow in the footsteps of shows such as “Dear White People” and act as a platform for difficult but necessary conversations, but fails to drive its point home.
Following a successful college student Jamilah played by Megalyn Echikunwoke on the road to Harvard Law School, the movie has a diverse cast that also includes Robert Curtis Brown, who plays the role of the College dean. Scripted by Dear White People’s Chuck Hayward and directed by Drumline’s Charles Stone III, the movie also has Megalyn Echikunwoke, Nia Jervier, Marque Richardson Ben, and Cory Jones.

The synopsis of Step Sisters is as follows:
“Jamilah has her whole life figured out. She’s the president of her black sorority, captain of their champion step dance crew, is student liaison to the college dean, and her next move is on to Harvard Law School. She’s got it all, right? But when the hard-partying white girls from Sigma Beta Beta embarrass the school, Jamilah is ordered to come to the rescue. Her mission is to not only teach the rhythmically-challenged girls how to step dance, but to win the Steptacular, the most competitive of dance competitions. With the SBBs reputations and charter on the line, and Jamilah’s dream of attending Harvard in jeopardy, these outcast screw-ups and their unlikely teacher stumble through one hilarious misstep after another. Cultures clash, romance blossoms, and sisterhood prevails as everyone steps out of their comfort zones.”
