Investigation Discovery’s American Monster is gearing up to release a new episode on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 9 p.m. ET. The upcoming episode, “Til Death Do Us Part,” revisits the story of a tragic killing. On what should have been a day of celebration for the family, things took a dark turn when Christy Blankenship was found dead at home. American Monster’s new episode will explore the murder case and the circumstances surrounding her death.

Christy Blankenship’s murder: How did she die & who killed her?

Christy Blankenship’s husband, Kevin Blankenship, was charged with the murder of his wife at their home in Baker City, Oregon, on August 26, 2010, per KVAL. The true crime episode reveals that Christy, who spent most of her life living in Springfield, was found with a gunshot wound to her head shortly after their wedding.

The Columbian reported Kevin initially told the authorities he accidentally shot the 38-year-old victim while cleaning his rifle. He insisted that it was an accident. Kevin originally pleaded not guilty but subsequently changed his plea in January 2011. According to Baker County District Attorney Matt Shirtcliff, Blankenship’s brother, Darrin, was going to testify that he received a call from Kevin after the shooting. He alleged that Kevin shot Christy because she was seeking a divorce.

Kevin’s lawyer told a judge during the court case that he believed “Blankenship was suffering from delusions,” according to KVAL. However, defense attorney Dan Cronin said Kevin was found capable of assisting with his defense after an evaluation was performed. Eventually, Blankenship pleaded guilty to shooting dead his wife, Christy, reported The Columbian. He was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years for the murder.

American Monster‘s Til Death Do Us Part will air on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 9 p.m. ET on Investigation Discovery.
