Legendary comedian Jay Leno seems to have sustained yet another injury after he was seen sporting an eye patch. Leno, who famously hosted NBC’s The Tonight Show for over 15 years, has always had a knack for getting into physically compromised situations. As such, the veteran artist once again finds himself in a tough spot after reportedly hurting his eye. So, what has actually happened to Jay Leno?
Here are all the available details regarding the 74-year-old comedian’s latest ailment.
Jay Leno talks about his eye injury
Jay Leno suffered an eye injury after accidentally tumbling down a hill over the weekend. The incident occurred after the two-time Primetime Emmy awardee decided to walk to a restaurant, which was situated at a lower altitude than his hotel.
He provided further details regarding his fall to TMZ, stating, “To get to it, I didn’t have a car, so you had to walk about a mile and a half around. I said, ‘Well, the hill doesn’t look that steep. It’s about 60 or 70 feet. Let me see if I can go down the hill,’” Leno explained. “I fell down. Boom, boom, boom. I rolled down the hill, hit my head on a rock, knocked me in the eye.”
Despite his eye injury, Leno still performed at his scheduled show at Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in Highland, California. After wrapping up his act, the comedian returned to Los Angeles, where he underwent medical assessments to determine the severity of his wound.
While expressing that the injury wasn’t a big deal, Leno made fun of himself for not learning from his past mistakes. The TV star had suffered third-degree burns in a garage fire in November 2022.
Leno later revealed that the accident occurred while he was working on a vintage car, per The Hollywood Reporter. The blow-up led to Leno’s face catching fire, forcing him to spend multiple nights at the Grossman Burn Center.
In 2023, Leno endangered his well-being once again after getting knocked off his motorcycle. The comedian ended up with a broken collarbone, two broken ribs, and two cracked kneecaps as a result.
