Donald Trump has recently appointed Susie Wiles, who previously served as his presidential campaign manager, as the White House Chief of Staff for his upcoming presidency in 2025. As a result, many people are curious about her background and want to learn more about her history in U.S. politics.
Here is everything you need to know about Susie Wiles and her background.
Donald Trump appoints first female White House Chief of Staff
Susie Wiles, now the first female White House Chief of Staff in history, holds a longstanding relationship with Donald Trump, dating back to her pivotal role in his 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns. Trump had positive things to say about Susie Wiles when confirming her appointment as White House Chief of Staff for his presidency.
“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history,” Trump said in a statement. “It is a well-deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.” (via CNN)
Susie Wiles has been involved in politics for a long time. In the 1970s, she had worked in the office of New York Rep. Jack Kemp. Then in 1980, she helped President Ronald Reagan’s campaign and worked in the White House as his scheduler.
However, her major contribution to politics primarily took place in Florida. Here, she served as an advisor for two Jacksonville mayors, worked for Rep. Tillie Fowler, and helped businessman Rick Scott become Florida’s governor in 2010. She also briefly managed the 2012 presidential campaign for Utah Governor Jon Huntsman.
She also has considerable history with Ron DeSantis, Florida’s current governor, having helped him reach the position. Unfortunately, the two would develop an antagonistic relationship, with DeSantis even urging Trump to not take her help in his 2020 Presidential campaign. Ultimately, Susie Wiles led Trump’s campaign against DeSantis and defeated him. During that campaign, DeSantis became a laughing stock amongst Trump campaign aides and external allies.
Wiles is also known for staying away from the spotlight. She even refused to speak at Trump’s recent victory speech, with Trump teasing her for being “shy.”
