Thirteen years after his appearance in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, actor Jude Law has come out to provide an update on its much-awaited threequel. The franchise, featuring Robert Downey Jr. as the titular detective, kickstarted in 2009, with its follow-up edition hitting theatres in 2011. The film series has since amassed a dedicated fan following, with admirers of Ritchie’s work consistently expressing their desire for a third installment. In a recent discussion, Jude Law, who portrays Dr. John Watson in the franchise, finally shared an encouraging update regarding the fate of Sherlock Holmes 3.
Jude Law says ‘there’s a great will to make’ Sherlock Holmes 3
Jude Law revealed that Sherlock Holmes 3 has experienced multiple changes throughout the years and currently has a brand new script attached to it. He also stated that the team behind the film is extremely enthusiastic about realizing their vision.
The two-time Oscar nominee conveyed his opinions regarding Sherlock Holmes 3 in an interview with The Playlist. While talking about the plot, Law admitted that the movie is presently following a new direction driven by an updated script. “The plan has been evolving over how many years it’s been now, probably nearly ten years,” he said.
“I think there’s a new iteration of the script I haven’t yet read. And then there’s a case of ‘How expensive is it? And can we get it made?’” Jude Law remarked playfully while expanding upon the plans for Sherlock Holmes 3. Despite upholding a mysterious tone to his comments, the actor assured fans of his commitment to the threequel.
“There’s a great will to make it,” he added. “And a great will amongst us all to get it right to do it, to find the time, to find the right team.” The English thespian then highlighted how it was working with Robert Downey Jr. on the Sherlock Holmes series. After lauding Downey’s talent and work ethic, Jude Law expressed gratitude for his friendship with the Iron Man actor, going as far as to label their connection as “one of the driving factors behind making a third film.”
Despite Law’s positive updates, Sherlock Holmes 3 does not have an official release date as of now.
