Zoe Saldaña Wants Gamora to be Recast in MCU, Has 1 Wish

Zoe Saldaña thinks her time in the MCU has come to an end, but does have one wish for what might happen to the character of Gamora in the future.

What did Zoe Saldaña say about Gamora?

Speaking to Variety in a recent interview, Saldaña said that she believes she is done with the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise after playing Gamora in the MCU. As for what might happen to Gamora, though, she does have one hope.

“Let it be a brown girl to play Gamora,” Saldaña said. “Give that opportunity to a woman of color and see what the new Gamora is going to bring to the table. Like I brought [Star Trek’s] Nyota Uhura to the table with Nichelle Nichols’ blessing.”

Saldaña’s exit from the MCU shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. At the end of 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it was hinted that Star-Lord, Mantis, Gamora, Drax, and Nebula were all leaving the time. The movie ended with the New Guardians lineup, consisting of Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, Phyla, and Blurp, with Rocket Racoon as their leader, taking on a mission.

While a fourth Guardians of the Galaxy movie has not been announced at this time, a note following Vol. 3’s post-credits scene revealed that “The Legendary Star-Lord will return.” This confirms that Marvel Studios has undisclosed plans for Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord in the future of the MCU. If Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 were to be greenlit, it would be without the involvement of writer-director James Gunn, who is currently under an exclusivity contract with DC Studios.
