Manchester United Eyeing up Ruben Amorim as Ten Hag’s Successor, Reports Claim

After experiencing their worst start to a Premier League season in 35 years, after seven domestic games, Manchester United finally decided to part ways with head coach Erik Ten Hag. As such, the Red Devils once again find themselves in the hunt for a capable manager who can overturn their everlasting woes. At the time of writing, Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim has emerged as the frontrunner to take over the Manchester United dugout. But do these rumors possess any ounce of credibility?

Here are all the available details regarding the speculation that Ruben Amorim will be connected to Manchester United’s coaching gig.

Will Ruben Amorim coach Manchester United?

As of now, the English giants have yet to officially appoint a successor to the departing Erik Ten Hag. Instead, former assistant coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy has been appointed as the interim manager at Old Trafford.

United announced their decision to sack Erik Ten Hag following their 1-2 loss to West Ham United. Sunday’s defeat meant that the Red Devils have now recorded four losses in nine Premier League games so far, restricting them to a mere 11 points. As such, United currently occupies a lowly 14th place in the table. The 20-time English champions have not fared much better on the continental front as well. Despite avoiding defeat, United presently sit in 21st position in the UEFA Europa League table, having secured just three points in three games.

Therefore, many fans had been expecting Ten Hag’s firing to be an inevitable consequence. Following his ousting, Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has emerged as the favorite for the Manchester United job. If reports by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano are to be believed, the two parties have already conducted contract discussions. Romano has also claimed that the Portuguese tactician is open to a move to Old Trafford.

Despite Manchester United’s interest, Ruben Amorim has an ongoing contract with Sporting until June 2026. Moreover, United will be required to pay a release clause of around €10 million if they wish to poach Amorim. While the deal looks likely to happen, no official updates have been shared by United or Sporting as of yet.
