Why is Mika Yasuda Leaving Grey’s Anatomy?

Grey’s Anatomy recently returned with its 21st season. It continues to showcase the rollercoaster journey of doctors and interns at the hospital. However, the series is all set to bid adieu to one of its most popular characters Mika Yasuda. So, why is Midori Francis’s Mika Yasuda leaving Grey’s Anatomy in Season 21?

Here is everything you need to know about the actor’s departure from the medical drama.

Why Midori Francis’ Mika Yasuda is leaving Grey’s Anatomy

Midori Francis is reportedly leaving Grey’s Anatomy to explore new career opportunities.

Francis made her debut in Season 19 as a surgical intern. She joined a group of five doctors as part of the teaching program at Grey Sloan. Mika managed to impress the viewers with her unique style of humor which keeps landing her in trouble. However, after her successful stints in two seasons, Francis decided to step away from the series. Fans were left shocked given her character’s impact and that she was just two seasons old.

As per Deadline, Midori Francis decided to quit Grey’s Anatomy ahead of Season 21 to look forward to the next chapter of her career. She signed up with WME this year to explore fresh opportunities ahead. However, Francis agreed to return to the ongoing season to give a proper end to the character. Aside from Francis, Jake Borelli, who played Dr. Levi Schmitt, has also left the show.

Episode 7 of Season 21 laid the foundation for Francis’s exit with the tragic death of Mike’s sister Chloe. In the recent episode, Mike continues to remain disturbed while her friends pacify her. Soon, she starts behaving as if nothing happened and decides to focus on her work.

She said she wants to be a doctor and not a patient. However, Mika is unable to treat a patient and breaks down remembering Chloe. She tries to find solace in her love interest Jules but is skeptical about returning to work. It will be interesting to see how Mika’s character eventually comes to an end.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 airs on ABC.
