The live-action Ahsoka series is the crown jewel of the Disney Plus schedule for August 21-27.
Starting August 22, Star Wars fans can finally watch Ahsoka, the series following the popular titular heroine. The Disney-owned streamer will release the first two episodes at once, with new installments premiering each Wednesday until October 4. Skywalker’s former Padawan is portrayed by Rosario Dawson. The cast includes Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger.
Ahsoka will make history on Disney Plus for several reasons, including being the first Star Wars live-action series focusing solely on someone who debuted as an animated character. More importantly, Ahsoka is the first Star Wars female character to headline a show. Introduced in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated film and subsequent TV series, Ahsoka quickly became a fan favorite. Her live-action debut occurred in The Mandalorian season 2, where she clashed with Imperial Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth in “Chapter 13: The Jedi.”
As part of the Disney100 celebration, Disney Plus will release a restored version of Walt Disney’s 1950 classic, Cinderella, on Friday, August 25. Directed by Wilfred Jackson, Hamilton Luske, and Clyde Geronimi, Cinderella is a timeless story and a significant success for Disney. It features memorable songs, including “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” and “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes.” The voice cast features Ilene Woods, Eleanor Audley, and Verna Felton. Among other accomplishments, the animated film also earned three Academy Award nominations.
