Eric Dane to play the villain

Euphoria star Eric Dane is set to play the villain in Bad Boys 4 opposite returning stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

If you’re a Euphoria fan, as many of us are here at JoBlo, you’ll know that one of the show’s biggest scene stealers last season was Eric Dane. To train Grey’s Anatomy star, Dane plays Cal Jacobs, the close father of the show’s psychotic heartthrob, Nate (Jacob Elordi). Last season, Cal ran amuck, and Dane’s performance got him the best reviews of his career. Indeed, it seems like the right folks were watching this in Tinseltown as Deadline is reporting that Eric Dane has been cast in the upcoming Badboys 4 opposite Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Nothing much is known about the plot yet, but Dane is apparently playing the villain.

Again, if you watch Euphoria, you’ll recognize this as pretty spot-on casting. Dane has shown a lot of depth as Cal, with him alternately malevolent and sympathetic throughout the show’s run. He has an imposing physique which should make him an excellent physical opponent for Smith, but he’s also such a great actor that if the role is written well he could make for a truly memorable villain.

Badboys 4 seems to be coming together relatively quickly, with many thinking this will be Smith’s big comeback following the infamous Oscar slap. Only time will tell, but it’s worth noting that the last film, Bad Boys For Life, made over $400 million worldwide, which is pretty notable considering that movie theaters worldwide shut down less than two months into its run. Had the film secured more of an international roll-out, the final total would have probably been much higher.

Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are back to direct the fourth film, with much of the supporting cast from the last movie returning, including Paola Núnez, Vanessa Hudgens and Alexander Ludwig.
