Netflix has released the latest teaser trailer for All the Light We Cannot Seea WWII-set limited series based on the 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, showing off the chemistry, drama and battles that helped make the source so popular.

Anthony Doerr’s sophomore novel proved to be a major success and has sold more than 15 million copies, so it was inevitable that a film or television adaptation of All the Light We Cannot See would be greenlit. Unveiled at Netflix’s Tudum event over the weekend, the teaser expands nicely on the previous look we got by offering the main characters’ voices for the first time, something that is crucial in the story.

The official plot for All the Light We Cannot Seeas per Netflix: “Based on Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize–winning novel of the same name, Shawn Levy’s epic four-part limited series takes viewers back in time to German-occupied Paris. The coming-of-age story follows French teenager named Marie-Laure (Aria Mia Loberti) who is blind and connects with Werner (Louis Hofmann), a German orphan, through radio frequencies. As Marie-Laure and her father (Mark Ruffalo) flee Paris to her uncle’s (Hugh Laurie) house in Saint-Malo, the two strangers’ paths intertwine.” The four-episode series premieres on Netflix on November 2nd.

Interestingly, the woman who portrays the blind Marie-Laura in All the Light We Cannot See, Aria Mia Loberti, is legally blind and won her debut role by edging out thousands of prospective young actresses. Hofmann was previously seen in Best Foreign Language nominee Land of Mineset during the end of WWII, and the tremendous German series Darkwhich brought to mind Netflix’s Stranger Things. And speaking of that show, All the Light We Cannot See is directed by the ever-busy Shawn Levy, who helmed a number of episodes of the Duffer Brothers series. He will also have Deadpool 3 out next year.

On the characters and structure of All the Light We Cannot SeeLevy said, “I always thought it was sort of romantic in the way that it follows these two young characters separately, but almost destined to intersect — and so I tried to honor what was on the page of the novel.”
