Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi shake things up in Sofia Coppola’s complex Elvis film

Elevation Pictures proudly presents its Priscilla trailer for Sofia Coppola’s emotionally complex portrayal of Rock and Roll royalty.

Elvis Presley told us he “ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog,” but how piercing is his bite behind closed doors? Is “The King of Rock and Roll” a controlling, entitled tyrant behind the scenes? If anyone can say, it’s Priscilla Presley, the music icon’s ex-wife and Queen of Graceland. Today, Elevation Pictures is proud to present its Priscilla trailer, previewing Sofia Coppola’s stirring drama about the private lives of Elvis and Priscilla Presley.

“When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailee Spaeny) meets Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi) at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “Through Priscilla’s eyes, Sofia Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame.”

Elevation Pictures’ Priscilla trailer paints a dark picture of the not-so-private lives of Rock and Roll royalty, from the couple’s fairytale courtship to a downward spiral of emotional abuse, infidelity, and warped view of The King. Presley’s account of her relationship with Elvis is a cautionary tale of all that glitters is not gold, and we should all proceed with caution when venturing into uncharted relationships.

Priscilla recently had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where it received rave reviews. The film stars Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla and Jacob Elordi as Elvis. Although it was based on Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon, the movie doesn’t have the official approval or support of the Elvis Estate. One Estate official slammed Coppola’s writing and directing as “horrible,” adding that the film “feels like a college movie. The set designs are just horrific. It’s not what Graceland looks like.”

Priscilla Presley, who serves as an executive producer, has a different take on the film. “I am very excited to see the interpretation of my book by the masterful Sofia Coppola. She has such an extraordinary perspective and I have always been such an admirer of her work. I’m certain this movie will take everyone on an emotional journey.”

Sadly, Priscilla won’t include any of Elvis’ iconic music. Sofia Coppola had approached Elvis Presley Enterprises about using a few Elvis hits, but was turned down. “They don’t like projects that they haven’t originated,” Coppola said, “and they’re protective of their brand. But that made us be more creative.”
