Will Ezra Miller return as The Flash in James Gunn’s DC Universe?
Ezra Miller’s return as The Flash in James Gunn’s DC Universe is unlikely to happen.
This is because The Flash flopped at the box office, grossing only $271.3 million worldwide against a budget of $200-220 million. Moreover, the film’s ending established Miller’s Barry Allen as being in a completely separate universe from James Gunn’s DCU.
Further solidifying the unlikelihood of Miller’s return as Flash in the DCU is James Gunn’s Threads confirmation on September 27, 2023 of the DCEU actors that will reprise their roles. This list of confirmed actors did not include Ezra Miller’s name, in addition to the names of other DCEU actors like Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman:
- Xolo Mariduena’s Blue Beetle
- Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller
- John Cena’s Peacemaker
Earlier, in an April 2023 interview with AP Entertainment at the premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn said he would “wait and see” when it comes to determining Ezra Miller’s Flash’s future in the DCU. This was before the film’s eventual premiere in June 2023.
On the other hand, in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) by scooper MyTimetoShineHello, a majority of fans expressed their wishes to not see Ezra Miller in the role again.
The Flash is currently streaming on Netflix and HBO Max.
