CD Projekt Red announced today that they are teaming up with Anonymous Content to develop a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project. Some outlets are reporting that the project is a movie, while others claim it’s a series, but it’s still unclear what type of project it will be.

The live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is still in the early stages of development, but the production is currently searching for a screenwriter to tell a “brand-new story” set in the world of the game. The project will be developed in close collaboration with the Cyberpunk 2077 creature team.

Cyberpunk 2077 finds the player taking control of V, a cyberpunk mercenary for hire who is ready to do whatever it takes to make a name for themselves in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour, and body modification. Despite being highly anticipated, the game received mixed reviews upon release and was widely criticized for bugs, even being removed from the PlayStation Store for several months while CD Projekt Red worked on the problems. Subsequent updates addressed many of the issues, and the game has proven to be quite popular. An expansion, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom City, was released last month and featured Idris Elba as new character Solomon Reed.\

This won’t be the first time that Cyberpunk 2077 has expanded beyond its video-game origins, as Netflix released an anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, last year. The series served as a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, taking place about a year before the vents of the game.

What do you hope the Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project turns out to be? A movie or a TV series?
