Dwayne Johnson is encouraging people to sing in movie theaters.
Johnson will soon be heard reprising his role as Maui in the animated Moana 2, which is a sequel to 2016’s Moana. Releasing in United States theaters later this week, the film features a score by Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i, while Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear wrote the songs.
What did Dwayne Johnson say about singing in movie theaters?
Speaking with BBC News, Johnson said Moana fans shouldn’t be afraid to sing in the movie theater when seeing Moana’s new adventure.
“Especially if you love music, that’s the fun part,” he said.
Johnson added, “Sing! You’ve paid your hard-earned money for a ticket, and you’ve gone into a musical, and you’re into it. Sing.”
The topic has largely been debated over social media, especially over the past couple of days since Jon M. Chu’s Wicked was recently released in theaters. Many audience members have said that they don’t want to pay money for a ticket only to hear other viewers singing over the movie — especially when sing-a-long screenings are being planned — while others feel the need to express themselves in that way when going to the movie theater.
Moana 2 releases in United States theaters on November 27, 2024, from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The voice cast also includes Auliʻi Cravalho as Moana, Temuera Morrison as Tui, Nicole Scherzinger as Sina, and more.
“Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical “Moana 2” reunites Moana (voice of Cravalho) and Maui (voice of Johnson) three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers,” the synopsis reads. “After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.”
