Game of Thrones Creators Reveal Favorite Deaths in Series

Game of Thrones is a series filled with death scenes for a variety of characters, and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss recently detailed a few of their favorites.

During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via The Hollywood Reporter), the pair were asked if they had any favorite scenes, to which Weiss quickly offered up a fan-favorite as his.

Instead of picking something shocking like the Red Wedding or Ned Stark’s death, both chose the deaths of two infamously hated characters.

Two infamous villain deaths make their list

“With Thrones, there was so much killing of good guys,” Weiss said, “and we finally got to really kill both Joffrey in season four and Ramsay Bolton in season six. It was fun to go back to the old-fashioned joys of just killing off a really bad guy. … It felt like it was balancing the scales a little.”

As for Benioff, he chose a more cathartic experience, when Sansa Stark finally gets her revenge on Ramsay Bolton and sicks her hounds on him following the Battle of the Bastards.

“For me, at the end of Battle of Bastards, when Sophie sticks the hounds on the Bastard, she doesn’t walk away. You don’t really see the death. You see some of it in the background, but you don’t really see the death,” Benioff said. “But what you do see is Sophie or Sansa’s smile.”
