An intriguing docuseries following the Los Angeles-based professional women’s soccer team is premiering as part of the HBO Max schedule for May 15-21.
Starting at 9:00 pm ET/PT on Tuesday, May 16, HBO and HBO Max subscribers can watch Angel City, an HBO original docuseries on the Angel City Football Club origin story. Two additional installments will follow on Wednesday, May 17 and Thursday, May 18. Founded by Academy-Award winner actress Natalie Portman, Kara Nortman, and Julie Uhrman, the team was announced in July 2020 and began play in 2022. Angel City will take the viewers behind the scenes throughout the team’s inaugural season.
Directed by Arlene Nelson, Angel City will feature candid interviews with the co-founders and several team members across players and coaching staff, including Christen Press, Freya Coombe, and more.
“Angel City is a captivating docuseries that goes behind the scenes and onto the pitch of the groundbreaking Los Angeles-based professional women’s soccer team, Angel City Football Club (ACFC). Founded in September 2020 by actor Natalie Portman, venture capitalist Kara Nortman and gaming entrepreneur Julie Uhrman, ACFC breaks the mold by being the largest majority female ownership group in professional sports and includes 14 former US Women’s National Team players as investors.”
The project hails from MountainA and Little Monster Films production in association with O’Malley Creadon Productions. Portman also executive produced with Chai Vasarhelyi, Jimmy Chin, Anna Barnes, Sophie Mas, and Christine O’Malley. Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller, and Bentley Weiner executive produced for HBO.
