Now that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is out in the world, James Gunn’s time with Marvel has officially come to an end. As the new co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn is essentially the Kevin Feige of DC, but he explained to Wired how their jobs actually differ.

It’s actually a little different, I mean… number one, DC Studios is a studio, so it’s a little bit different. Peter Safran [DC Studios co-CEO] does a lot of what Kevin Feige does,” James Gunn said. “A lot of what I do is I just work on the creative side of things, so… mapping out the stories and the creative side of the universe is my job, much more so than some of the more administrative/executive type of stuff. Kevin has to do both.” Sean Gunn, who took part in the Wired interview alongside his brother, joked that he thought it was a “baseball cap” question, referencing Kevin Feige’s love of a good ball cap.

The latest installation of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise finds our beloved band of misfits settling into life on Knowhere. But it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life—a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them. James Gunn wrote and directed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova.

Our own Chris Bumbray admitted that he hasn’t enjoyed the last few MCU offerings, but he called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 the best Marvel movie since Avengers: Endgame. “While not perfect, [Guardians 3] is still a very entertaining addition to the genre, working as a space opera independent of the MCU,Bumbray wrote in his review. “It’s impressive they gave Gunn the leeway to do this, as even Wakanda forever was saddled with a degree of Marvel world-building that felt tacked on to what was otherwise a solid stand-alone movie.” You can check out the rest of Bumbray’s review right here.
