Jamie Dornan wore his own Superman suit to his audition for Man of Steel but admits that may not have helped him.
When you consider how many superhero movies have been developed over the last twenty years, you’d imagine that almost every young actor would have tried out for those roles. While speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jamie Dornan surprisingly revealed that he hasn’t taken part in any superhero auditions, with one notable exception: Superman.
“The only one I auditioned for is Superman,” Jamie Dornan said. “That was way back when, like when Henry Cavill got cast. That’s probably 12 years ago or something.” The actor revealed that he actually wore his own Superman costume to the audition, which he isn’t sure helped his cause. “I wore my own suit there. Was that a mistake? They were Superman pajamas, they weren’t an actual suit,” he said. “I remember an early audition for that. I got nowhere near putting the [real] suit on… I’ve had meetings with heads of studios that do those things and would talk about it, but I never got deep in any audition process for them.“
As Jamie Dornan mentioned, Henry Cavill won the role of Superman and went on to play the role in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and Black Adam. The Superman audition process took place all over again earlier this year, with David Corenswet (Pearl) signing on to play the Man of Steel alongside Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) as Lois Lane.
Jamie Dornan can currently be seen starring alongside Gal Gadot in Heart of Stone on Netflix. The Wonder Woman actress stars as an intelligence operative for a shadowy global peacekeeping agency that races to stop a hacker from stealing its most valuable and dangerous weapon. The film is now streaming on Netflix and you can check out a review of the action thriller from our own Alex Maidy right here.
