The Iron Claw actor Jeremy Allen White recalls an awkward body hair-shaving session with his beefy co-stars.
Dr. Evil once said, “There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum. It’s breathtaking. I suggest you try it.” Perhaps Jeremy Allen White could have used the Austin Powers villain as a co-star while filming A24‘s The Iron Claw, as it might have made him feel better about an extreme body hair-shaving session he participated in for the highly-anticipated sports drama. Speaking with Variety about the upcoming film, White recalled shaving every inch of his body alongside co-stars Zac Efron and Harris Dickinson. “Our bodies had to be completely shaved,” White said. “We were strangers at the time. Now I know them and love them, but at the time, it was like, ‘Hi, nice to meet you and yes, they’re shaving off all of our body hair.’”
Here’s the official synopsis for The Iron Claw:
The true story of the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who made history in the intensely competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s. Through tragedy and triumph, under the shadow of their domineering father and coach, the brothers seek larger-than-life immortality on the biggest stage in sports.
Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene, The Rental) directs from his own script, with Maura Tierney, Holt McCallany, Chavo Guerrero Jr., Stanley Simons, Cazzey Louis Cereghino, Grady Wilson, Lily James, Kevin Anton, Ryan Nemeth, and more joining White, Dickinson, and Efron as cast members.
Concerning standing tall alongside his co-stars, White, who packed on nearly 25 pounds for the film, says he did his best to avoid standing next to Efron, whose physique. is jaw-dropping in the upcoming drama. “I joke about it but it’s true — I didn’t want to stand close to him while shooting the movie because it would make me look my size,” White said. “But it’s hard because we play brothers. I do have to be around him. Although I tried to make Harris stand next to him most of the time.”
I can recall Efron’s Baywatch body and can’t begin to imagine what he’ll look like for The Iron Claw. Promotional images from the film are fine, but seeing Efron in action on the silver screen is bound to be intimidating. One thing’s for sure, actor or no, I would not want to trade blows with Efron, White, or Dickinson after the trio busted their asses to film The Iron Claw. I like my face exactly where it is, thank you very much.
