Marvel Boss Calls Hawkeye a ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ After World-Ending Stakes of Eternals & Endgame

Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige has praised the festive vibes of upcoming Disney+ series, Hawkeye, describing himself as being passionate about Christmas and passionate for the storytelling possibilities that come with this time of year. After confirming that yes, Iron Man 3 is in fact a Christmas movie, Feige teased the classic, jolly escapade that Clint Barton will embark on in his first standalone adventure.

“[‘Iron Man 3’] came out in the summer. This is fun because it’s a Christmas story taking place during the holidays. It’s also based on early discussions about a limited time period, about setting a series in – not quite real time – but, essentially, in a six-day period, six episodes, six days. Will Clint make it home for Christmas? Which was fun and a breath of fresh air after world-ending stakes and Celestials bursting out of planets and multiverse shenanigans. This is, like Hawkeye himself, a grounded, family-based show.”

A lot of fuss has been made about the small-scale story told in Hawkeye, with the street-level action making a refreshing change from all the world-ending, multiversal madness that has literated the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent years. The addition of Christmas though is something that Kevin Feige is even more excited about, with the festive setting taking a central role in the Disney+ show.

“I’ve always loved films or shows or specials that take place over the holiday season. I think there’s a heightened amount of emotion and a heightened amount of conflict and tension that can occur in this glorious season. I’ve always honestly been looking for opportunities [like that]. We’ve announced a ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ holiday special, which has literally been in the works for four years. This show has now come up and come out before that, though I thought ‘Guardians’ would be out first. They’re actually very different. But I just love this time of year for the storytelling possibilities.”

Disney+ and Marvel Studios invite you on an unexpected holiday getaway with Hawkeye, a new series set in post-blip New York City. Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.

Starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld as Clint Barton and Kate Bishop respectively, Hawkeye is also set to star Vera Farmiga, Tony Dalton, Zahn McClarnon, and Brian d’Arcy James, with Fra Fee joining the MCU as the villainous Kazi alongside Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez AKA Echo, a deaf superhero who can perfectly copy another person’s movements and will soon become the subject of her own spin-off Disney+ series.

Hawkeye is scheduled to premiere its first two episodes on November 24, 2021, and will consist of six episodes, concluding on December 22 as part of Phase Four of the MCU. This comes to us courtesy of Slash Film.
