James Cameron is working on a new Terminator movie. However, the director plans to let the world of AI grow before finishing it up.
What did James Cameron say about a new Terminator movie?
Speaking during a recent appearance at the Dell Tech World conference, Cameron revealed that he actually is in the process of writing a new Terminator movie — and has been for about three months. However, Cameron said that he has no plans to finish it until he sees how the growth of AI shakes out.
The news comes as a surprise for many. When he last discussed the possibility of new Terminator, Cameron said he was unsure if another film was in the cards. However, Cameron did say that if he did make a new Terminator movie, it would be more about the “AI side” of things.
“If I were to do another Terminator film and maybe try to launch that franchise again, which is in discussion but nothing has been decided, I would make it much more about the AI side of it than bad robots gone crazy,” Cameron revealed during an appearance on Wondery and Amazon’s Smartless podcast in December 2022.
Previously, 2019’s Terminator: Dark Fate was rumored to be the beginning of a new trilogy. However, the movie was a box office failure, which resulted in plans for future films being canceled.
