Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil Is Based on True Story?

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil is out in theaters. The movie is special for Sukumaran’s fans as he has returned to the comedy genre in a local setting. While the movie follows the story of a special case, discussions are ongoing about whether it was inspired by true events.

Is Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil based on a real story?

Redditors are widely discussing the inspiration behind Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil. The channel InsideMollywood alleged that the movie is based on a true incident. The statement read, “There are lots of rumours coming up saying that the movie is based on real story based on famous incident happened in Guruvayoor Temple. The incident was due to high flow of marriage in the temple one time there was a miscommunication and bride groom will get switched and wrong couple get married each other.”

Redditors further discussed the relevance of the statement. Some also claimed that Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil is based on the 1992 film Grihaprevesam, which starred Jagadish and Rekha. As the latest family comedy also features the two actors as supporting characters, netizens became more confident in their claims.

However, in an interview with The Hindu, director Vipin Das clarified that the movie is not inspired by Grihaprevesam. The director revealed that the only similarity between the two films is that a man marries the wrong woman. However, the director did not confirm whether the movie was based on a true story. He did mention that it was his entry into the comedy genre.

He added that the movie was written by Deepu Pradeep and he translates the script into a movie. The director said, “The offbeat narrative techniques that I used in JJJH (Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey) have not been used in this film. Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil has been written by Deepu Pradeep. My job is to translate his story visually on screen. I believe I have been able to do justice to his script.” Stay tuned for more updates!
