Ram Pothnineni’s iSmart Shankar Recap & Spoilers

Directed by Puri Jagannadh, Double iSmart was theatrically released on August 15, 2024, coinciding with Indian Independence Day. The film serves as a sequel to iSmart Shankar, which was released in 2019, and stars Ram Pothineni as Ustaad iSmart Shankar. While Double iSmart is currently playing in theaters, fans who have not seen the first installment have been curious about its conclusion. This article provides a quick recap of iSmart Shankar’s ending.

What happened to Chandni?

iSmart Shankar begins with a conference where neuroscientists discuss a groundbreaking project related to brain memory transfer. The narrative then shifts to the film’s protagonist, iSmart Shankar, a notorious criminal who has just broken out of jail. Shankar was imprisoned for assassinating the Chief Minister, Kashi Vishwanath. His escape sets off a chain of events that unfolds in the film.

The story then features a flashback to reveal Shankar’s life before his arrest. Known for committing various petty offenses, Shankar fell in love at first sight with a woman named Chandni. Meanwhile, his uncle offered him a lucrative but dangerous job—assassinating the Chief Minister. Tempted by the money, Shankar agreed and successfully carried out the hit.

After the assassination, Shankar fled to Goa with Chandni, but their plans took a tragic turn when they were ambushed by the police. In the ensuing gunfight, Chandni was killed, leaving Shankar devastated, and thus determined to seek revenge. Realizing that his uncle betrayed him, Shankar confronted and killed him and set out to find the real mastermind, Jamaal.

On the other hand, CBI officer Arun had been rigorously investigating the Chief Minister’s murder, closing in on Jamaal. Shankar and Arun unexpectedly crossed paths at an abandoned place. Unaware that they had walked into a trap, they were ambushed and severely injured. Arun was fatally wounded, but Shankar survived with critical injuries.

Arun held vital information about the murder case, which was known only to him. Desperate to retrieve this information, Senior CBI officer Chandrakanth turned to Arun’s girlfriend, Sarah, a neuroscientist working on the revolutionary brain memory transfer project. He convinced Sarah to transfer Arun’s memories into Shankar’s mind, hoping it would provide the answers they needed.

Did iSmart Shankar take revenge for Chandni’s death?

Sarah successfully completed the memory transfer, merging Arun’s memories with Shankar’s mind. However, when Shankar regained consciousness, he was disoriented by the flood of memories and escaped from the custody of the CBI and Sarah.

As iSmart Shankar unfolded, Sarah informed Shankar that his original memories would gradually fade as Arun’s memories took over. Shankar began to experience sudden shocks, confirming to Sarah that her experiment was working. Realizing his time was limited, Shankar became determined to avenge Chandni’s death before he lost his identity entirely.

However, Arun’s memories started to surface more frequently, leading Shankar to Arun’s house, where he discovered crucial files on Arun’s laptop. These files revealed the elaborate conspiracy orchestrated by Ramamoorthy and Devendra Vishwanath to assassinate Chief Minister Kashi Vishwanath. Shankar shared this information with CBI officer Chandrakanth, but just as he did, his original memories resurfaced, causing a lot of confusion.

As Arun’s memories fully integrated into Shankar’s mind, he took over the investigation. Subsequently, Shankar tracked down and arrested corrupt police officer Dharam, who had been colluding with Ramamoorthy. Through Dharam’s communications, Shankar uncovered the full extent of the conspiracy.

In a dramatic confrontation, Shankar confronted Devendra and Ramamoorthy at Varanasi with the CBI’s support. In front of the Vishwanath family, Shankar exposed their plot, revealing their roles in orchestrating the Chief Minister’s assassination. A brutal fight broke out between Shankar and Devendra. During the battle, Devendra struck Shankar, triggering a resurgence of Shankar’s original memories.

In a final twist, Sarah revealed that Chandni’s death was orchestrated by Devendra. Enraged, Shankar killed Devendra, avenging Chandni’s death. Overall, the film concluded on a celebratory note, as Shankar, now a fusion of his own identity and Arun’s memories, married Sarah on February 14, marking a new beginning in his life.
