Searchlight Pictures Nabs Rights to Spec Script From Skinned Writer

Searchlight Pictures has successfully acquired the rights to the spec script Clean Break from rising writer Ryan Brennan. The studio won the project in a bidding competition against other studios.

This marks Brennan’s first major motion picture after previously directing and writing the script for last year’s short drama Skinned. The short also starred Brennan as a boxer named Tucker. The actor and filmmaker previously appeared in several shorts, such as 2014’s Jack Bowman, 2015’s The Farthest Apple From the Tree, 2015’s A Happy Marriage, and 2018’s Last Meal. He also had one-episode appearances on Power and Law & Order.

What is Clean Break about?

“In the film, when a fiercely independent pool hustler finally meets her match in a fellow pool shark, their irresistible but destructive attraction to one another leads to deadly consequences that she can’t outrun,” reads the project’s initial synopsis.

At the moment, Clean Break is currently in development. Further details about its cast, production start date, and target release date are still being kept under wraps. The project also has no director attached to it.

SVP Production Taylor Friedman and Creative Affairs Manager Daniel Yu have been tapped to oversee the project on behalf of Searchlight Pictures, along with Scott Free Productions’ SVP of Film Sam Rostan.

Before Searchlight Pictures landed the spec script, it landed on the Black List site a year ago under the title I’ll F**king Kill You.
