According to Deadline, Emmy nominee Sebastian Stan and Oscar nominee Maria Bakalova have signed on for the leading roles in Paramount Pictures’ untitled spy comedy, with Paul Feig attached to direct. The project is reportedly still in the early stages of development.
The untitled movie will be written by Jenny Bicks (Welcome to Flatch), which is based on an original pitch. The outlet’s source notes that the story will revolve around “a failed double agent who becomes an unlikely success.” Further details about the plot and characters are still being kept under wraps.
The project will be produced by Feig and Laura Allen Fischer for Feigco Entertainment along with Stan and Emily Gerson Saines.
Stan gained worldwide recognition for his role as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is set to resume the role in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie, where he’ll be teamed up with other Marvel antiheroes. Production on the high-profile project is expected to start this year.
As for Bakalova, she made her acting breakthrough in Sacha Baron Cohen’s mockumentary Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The Bulgarian actress is also joining Stan in the MCU as she has been cast to lend her voice to the character of Cosmo the Spacedog in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
