Netflix has canceled Shadow and Bone, Agent Elvis, Glamorous, and more, which unfortunately seem to be casualty’s of the strikes.
Deadline has reported that Netflix has canceled a number of their shows, including Shadow and Bone, Agent Elvis, Glamorous, Farzar, and Captain Fall.
Unfortunately, a major factor in these cancelations has to do with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. With work at a standstill for several months, networks and streamers haven’t been able to make their projected launches, which means big gaps between seasons. This isn’t a problem for successful shows, but for ones that may have been on the bubble, not to mention expensive, it was the final nail in the coffin. We can certainly expect to see more of these cancelations as streaming services and networks take stock of their slate following the strikes.
Shadow and Bone is based on Leigh Bardugo’s bestselling Grishaverse novels and takes place in a “war-torn world where lowly soldier and orphan Alina Starkov has just unleashed an extraordinary power that could be the key to setting her country free. With the monstrous threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha. But as she struggles to hone her power, she finds that allies and enemies can be one and the same and that nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. There are dangerous forces at play, including a crew of charismatic criminals, and it will take more than magic to survive.“
Agent Elvis featured the voice of Matthew McConaughey as Elvis Presley, who “trades in his jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves – all while holding down his day job as the King Of Rock And Roll.“
Glamorous follows Marco (Miss Benny), a young makeup enthusiast who is hired as an assistant to beauty mogul Madolyn Addison (Kim Cattrall). Through their work at the company, Marco goes on a dazzling journey of self-discovery amid work chaos and romantic challenges. Farzar is an outrageous sci-fi comedy from the creators of Netflix’s Paradise PD that follows “Prince Fichael and his crew as they venture out of their domed human city to fight the evil aliens that want to kill and/or eat them. As they begin their journey, Fichael quickly discovers that all is not what it seems and he may be living a lie.” Lastly, Captain Fall revolves around Jonathan Fall, a wet-behind-the-ears yet good-hearted sea captain who unwittingly finds himself at the helm of a smuggling ship.
Shadow and Bone was the only one of the canceled shows to last beyond one season. Which cancelation hurts the most?
