The Hedge Knight Ideal Season Number Revealed for Game of Thrones Spin-off

In a recent interview with Deadline, HBO head of drama Francesca Orsi shared a new detail about the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. Orsi confirmed that they’re currently mapping out a three-season plan for the spin-off which would be based on author George RR Martin’s other Game of Thrones novellas.

Orsi outlined the series’ potential number of seasons: “Ideally year-to-year and arcing out a three-season series, which maps out the three novellas that George wrote. Of course, we’d like more beyond that, and George is continuing to think about the remaining novellas that he still wants to write but at this point, we have our eye on three seasons that would map out each book, each novella.”

While sharing his full support for the ongoing WGA strike, Martin recently confirmed that preproduction on The Hedge Knight series has been temporarily shut down until the strike reaches a fair conclusion.

What to Expect in The Hedge Knight Series?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is based on the Martin’s Dunk and Egg novella. The short tale centers on Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), set a hundred years before the events of the main series. The series is expected to run for six episodes.

“A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros … a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg,” reads the series’ logline. “Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

The prequel will be written and executive produced by both Martin and Ira Parker. Additional executive producers are Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis. Other potential Game of Thrones spin-offs are in the works at HBO, which include a Jon Snow-centered series featuring the return of Kit Harington.
