The Iron Claw stars Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White could see themselves getting into the squared circle…under certain terms.
In the small group of celebrities who have tried out professional wrestling, most have been absolute flops: New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor main eventing WrestleMania XI was an embarrassment, while David Arquette winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship remains one of the worst stunts in pro wrestling history (and that’s saying something). In fairness, Logan Paul is a genuine talent and even Bad Bunny has proven capable in the ring, but they are definitely outliers. Now, one prominent pro wrestling roster may find itself bulking up, as The Iron Claw stars Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White expressed interest in stepping into the squared circle.
As Efron – who plays Kevin Von Erich of the famed wrestling dynasty in The Iron Claw – told The Ringer’s The Masked Man Show, he would enter the ring under certain stipulations. “It’d be fun if we could get in there with some of the guys we worked with, with Chavo [Guerrero, who comes from his own wrestling family and served as consultant] or even the Von Erichs coming back with AEW,” he said, referring to Marshall and Ross Von Erich making their AEW debuts earlier this month. “I’d love to do something with them. If we had some time and prep and, especially if we were all out there together, that would be fun as hell. Who knows. Don’t count it out, that’s for sure.”
Meanwhile, The Iron Claw co-star White – who took the role of Kerry Von Erich, one of the many tragic figures of the family – said he would need proper preparation and the right opponent. “If they gave me a minute, if they gave me some warning to try and get myself together a little bit, I’d be up for it. I don’t think I’m knowledgeable enough on professional wrestling today, but who is the smallest guy doing the thing today?”
With The Iron Claw in theaters now, it’s a little late for an in-ring promotion, but it would still be fitting for Efron and White to turn up at an event. While Efron leans towards All Elite Wrestling, their star power might be better suited for the WWE. Hey, why not have the pair come out as surprise entrants in the Royal Rumble next month? The Von Erich family was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009.
The Iron Claw has been earning rave reviews from critics and those within the wrestling community. Our own Chris Bumbray gave it an 8/10 (you can read his review here), while Efron admitted that he sought praise from the actual Kevin Von Erich.
