Billboard recently issued an apology to Taylor Swift after they uploaded a video celebrating her as their second biggest pop star. Notably, that video included a controversial and offensive clip, angering many fans, who demanded an apology on her behalf from the magazine.
Curious about why Billboard apologized to Taylor Swift? Here are all the details.
Why did Billboard apologize to Taylor Swift?
Billboard apologized to Taylor Swift for including a controversial clip in a recent video celebrating her title as their second biggest pop star and all her musical achievements. The clip in question was from Kanye West‘s 2016 music video “Famous,” which featured a nude wax figure of Swift on the bed with him and where he claimed that he helped Swift rise to fame.
The music magazine apologized via X (Twitter). “We are deeply sorry to Taylor Swift and all of our readers and viewers that in a video celebrating Swift’s achievements, we included a clip that falsely depicted her,” the apology read.
They also confirmed that the controversial clip has been edited out of the video.
Swift has not yet publicly responded to the apology. However, fans reacted negatively to the apology.
“This might be one of the worst apologies in the history of bad apologies #BillboardIsOverParty,” one fan tweeted on X.
Another fan called Billboard “irresponsible, toxic, and unprofessional” for including the clip. The fan also called them out for disregarding Swift’s dignity and career.
Several other fans called out Billboard for taking hours to remove the clip.
Taylor Swift and Kanye West’s feud has been long-running. It began in 2009, when, during the MTV Video Music Awards, where Swift had won Best Female Video for “You Belong With Me,” West interrupted her on stage during her speech and claimed that Beyonce should have won the award.
Swift is currently in the final leg of her International Eras Tour, which will wrap up on December 8, 2024.
