Elle Macpherson speaks about her breast cancer journey
Elle Macpherson recently sat down for a conversation with The Australian Women’s Weekly to promote her new book and spoke about her breast cancer journey. However, her cancer revelation came as a shock to the host as well as her fans.
The model, who is currently in the remission phase of her disease, reflected on the moment she first received the diagnosis. She said, “It was a shock, it was unexpected, it was confusing, it was daunting in so many ways. And it really gave me an opportunity to dig deep in my inner sense to find a solution that worked for me…I realized I was going to need my own truth, my belief system to support me through it.”
Macpherson further revealed that she was diagnosed seven years ago after she underwent a lumpectomy. The doctor informed her that she has breast cancer, the official name of which is HER2 positive estrogen receptive intraductal carcinoma. They then laid down a series of treatments for her to undergo, such as chemotherapy, mastectomy with radiation, etc., she stated.
However, Macpherson denied the conventional treatments and opted for a holistic approach to the treatment. “I chose [a] holistic approach. Saying no to standard medical solutions was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. But saying no to my own inner sense would have been even harder,” she revealed. She also disclosed how people around her doubted her choice and labeled her “crazy.”
Further, Elle Macpherson talked about her current health status. “Traditionally, they’d say I’m in clinical remission, but I would say I’m in utter wellness. And I am! Truly, from every perspective, every blood test, every scan…but also emotionally, spiritually and mentally – not only physically,” she said.
Macpherson’s eponymously titled book is available for purchase.
