The final episode of Outer Banks Season 4 is finally here and has left its viewers in shock due to its ending. A month after the premiere of Part 1 of Season 4, Part 2 effectively concludes the ongoing arc of the show, establishing a grand setup for the series’ final chapter. As the Pogues duke it out against Dalia and her mercenaries, several leading characters find themselves in a battle for survival. One of the characters who ended up staring death in the face was Rudy Pankow’s JJ. A surprise twist towards the concluding moments of the finale has fans wondering if the erratic but kind-hearted adventurer has met his end. So, what happened to JJ, and does he actually die in the Season 4 finale?

Here are all the available details regarding the fate of Pankow’s character.

Does JJ die at the end of Outer Banks Season 4 Part 2?

Unfortunately for the fans of Outer Banks, JJ happens to die at the hands of Groff as the last episode of Season 4 nears its end.

Following an all-out war between the Pogues and Dalia, all the leading characters manage to make it out of the battle by the skin of their teeth. The heroic group is also able to wrap their hands around the elusive Blue Crown, causing fans to believe in a happy ending to Season 4.

However, the Pogues’ past comes back to haunt them as Episode 10 draws to a conclusion in the form of Groff. Earlier in the episode, JJ and the gang engage in a heated altercation with Groff, which ends with the team leaving Groff for dead in a well. But, Groff somehow manages to escape the depths of his captivity and catches up to the Pogues in time.

He takes everyone by surprise and succeeds in catching hold of Kiara. Keeping her at knifepoint, Groff demands the Pogues to turn over the crown in exchange for their friend’s life. As it happens, JJ complies and relinquishes the crown to save the love of his life. Despite getting what he desired, a vengeful Groff continues his rampages and plunges the knife into JJ’s stomach.

Rudy Pankow’s JJ falls to the ground and begins to bleed out profusely. While many viewers assumed that this was another near-death experience that the Pogues always manage to evade at the last moment, the creators throw a curveball by actually killing off JJ. The fan-favorite character breathes his last in Kiara’s arms, but not before confessing his love for her one last time. The episode concludes with the Pogues burying their friend and vowing revenge against the man who has wronged them.
