With Rob Lowe’s comedy series Unstable being recently canceled by Netflix, fans are wondering if there is any hope for a Season 3. Netflix has bid adieu to quite a few fan favorites this year, including Deadboy Detectives, Shadow and Bone, and more. And now, the promising workplace comedy starring the father and son duo of Rob and John Lowe, has also reached the end of the line. As expected, viewers are curious about why the show has been cut short after the sophomore season.
Here is everything we know about why Netflix cancelled Unstable and if there is any possibility of its return.
Why did Netflix’s Unstable get canceled?
A recent report indicates that Netflix has decided to cancel Unstable due to unsatisfactory view count. Whether or not a show is renewed for another season is determined by its performance based on views verses the cost of production.
As per Deadline, the second season of Unstable opened to a poor view count and it failed to crack the Netflix Top 10. This means that Season 2 could not reach 1.4 million views in its opening weekend. It even failed to reach 1.3M during its first full week. Due to such a poor performance, Netflix executives have decided not to greenlight a Season 3 of Unstable.
Could there still be an Unstable Season 3?
It is currently unclear whether there will be a third season of Unstable.
The aforementioned outlet states that the showrunners are already hunting for a new home for the series. However, things are not looking too promising. One of the main difficulties that arises in shifting the show to a new network is that Unstable is a Netflix original. So, the best bet is to look for a linear network.
Rob Lowe, the star and creator of the series, has ties with Fox, given he is the executive producer for 9-1-1: Lone Star and The Floor. As per Deadline, Unstable has even been pitched to the network. But unfortunately, Fox already has other commitments and the Netflix show will not be moving there anytime soon. Consequently, the possibility of Unstable Season 3 happening looks very bleak at the moment.
The workplace comedy series Unstable follows a young man named Jackson. He begins working for his successful yet eccentric father, who is grieving the death of his wife. The second and possibly final season premiered on August 1, 2024 and features 8 episodes.
