As of April 2024, HBO hasn’t greenlit the second season of The Sympathizer. Several outlets list the show as a miniseries or a limited series, so the chances for a sophomore season are rather low. However, as mentioned above, The Sympathizer is an adaptation of the namesake 2015 Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Viet Thanh Nguyen. That book has a sequel. The Committed came out in 2021 and continues the story of the protagonist from The Sympathizer. Because of this, we can’t rule out the possibility of a second season of The Sympathizer.

The cast of The Sympathizer includes Hoa Xuande as the Captain, Sandra Oh as Sofia Mori, Fred Nguyen Khan as Bon, and Toan Le as the General. Additionally, Robert Downey Jr. portrays Claude and three other characters.
