It was reported earlier this month that Disney would start removing content from their streaming services, and the list of shows getting the ax was revealed last week. Among the dozens of TV shows and specials set to be removed from Disney+ was Willowthe sequel series to the beloved 1988 fantasy movie starring Warwick Davis.

Willow showrunner Jon Kasdan reacted to the news that the show would be removed from Disney+, and surprisingly, he’s… sort of okay with it.

I’ve been quiet on this news that Willow is leaving Disney+ ’cause… I’m kinda into it,Kasdan wrote on Twitter. “I grew up at a time when Disney movies were periodically re-released and not available to own, and it made them… more special.“Kasdan continued,”I worry about many things… but NONE of them are that Willow will never be available again, either on Disney+ or perhaps… someplace else, & ya never know where that could lead… stranger things have happened. So grateful for all the love and enthusiasm; it’s truly what keeps these worlds alive.

It remains to be seen what will happen to Willow, but it’s been said that some of the shows being removed from Disney+ could end up on other platforms. After Willow was cancelled, Kasdan set the record straight by referring to it as more of a hiatus and expressed his excitement about returning for more. Kasdan said that he’d already written the second season of Willow with “the enthusiastic and overwhelming support of Lucasfilm and Disney,“which he hopes will be”brain-meltingly fun, richer, darker, and better.” Kasdan teased that Volume II would be “all about courage, desire, acceptance and the comedy and beauty to be found in even the darkest places and moments. It’s about the enemies we must inevitably confront, both without and, often far more insidiously, from within. But, above all, it’s about the ineffable and enduring magic of friendship.
