WWE superstar Kevin Owens revealed that there were extensive discussions about a highly anticipated match between him and The Undertaker for WrestleMania 32, highlighting the possibilities that could have unfolded at the grand event.
During WrestleMania 32 in 2016, The Undertaker and Shane McMahon faced off in a Hell in a Cell match, which became iconic due to McMahon’s fall from the cage. Surprisingly, this match was not the initial plan they had discussed for that year’s grand event.
In an interview with Joe Baiamonte from WrestleSphere, Kevin Owens mentioned that there were talks about him having a match against The Undertaker before WrestleMania 32. He stated, “I think things just shifted and that was the year that Shane McMahon returned. So obviously at the time, my standing in the company compared to Shane McMahon coming back after all those years, the thought was probably ‘Shane McMahon versus The Undertaker is a huge match. I know it was on the table and it was heavily discussed and it would have been amazing. My first WrestleMania, to be in there with The Undertaker, would have been sweet. It didn’t happen, but I’ve been in the ring with him. I was actually in the ring with him in the main event of a Madison Square Garden show. So I got to do that with him which was really cool.”
Despite the lasting impact the WrestleMania 32 match between The Undertaker and Shane McMahon had on WWE history, Owens still had the opportunity to share the ring with The Undertaker in 2018 during a live event.
Who did Kevin Owens face at WrestleMania 32?
Kevin Owens’ journey to WrestleMania 32 held surprises and memorable moments, showcasing his talent in the WWE landscape.
Despite initial discussions about a potential match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32. Kevin Owens found himself in a different yet equally significant spotlight at the event. Owens, known for his impactful main roster debut against John Cena in 2015, stepped onto the grandest stage of them all to defend his WWE Intercontinental Championship.
The stage was set for Owens in a high-stakes ladder match. The match featured a stacked lineup of Zack Ryder, Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, Sami Zayn, Sin Cara, and Cody Rhodes. While Owens faced fierce competition, the match itself was a spectacle, showcasing the athleticism of all involved.
However, Owens didn’t win that night, Zack Ryder emerged as the winner of the ladder match. Despite this, Owens’ WrestleMania debut was nothing short of impressive. Opening the show with a title defense added an extra layer of significance to Owens’ journey.
