Mission: Yozakura Family episode 5, “Interrogation/Date,” aired on Sunday, May 6, 2024. The episode sees Taiyo getting unwanted attention from Detective Hotokeyama, who suspects him of being part of a criminal organization.
Episode 5 of Mission: Yozakura Family starts with Taiyo walking home from a mission while planning a date with Mutsumi. They agree to visit a Ferris wheel on their day off but are interrupted by Detective Hotokeyama, who asks for Taiyo. He escorts him to the station and questions about his affiliation with a criminal organization.
Hotokeyama then shows him several pictures and instances where Taiyo was implicitly a criminal. He force-feeds him a vial of truth serum. However, Taiyo catches it with the water containment balloon in his mouth. As that didn’t work, he threatens Taiyo with a hammer, but Taiyo denies any ties to any organization. Taiyo then notices one of Kyoichiro’s threads and breaks the wall, revealing that he is listening. The whole thing is revealed to be a ruse by Kyoichiro and Hotokeyaya to see if Taiyo is trustworthy enough.
The next day, Taiyo becomes exhausted in class as he doesn’t get any sleep due to Kyoichiro. The situation worsens when the latter appears as the teacher for that day. He forces Taiyo to reach a half-awakened state and threatens him with chalk hurled at the speed of sound.
However, Kyoichiro cheats by using Nanao’s sleeping pill to knock out the whole class except Mutsumi, who has a gas mask. Taiyo successfully reaches the half-awakened state and trades blows with Kyoichiro. However, it is revealed that Taiyo has picked up sleepwalking due to it.

Elsewhere, Taiyo reads a book on dating for spies and is joined by Mutsumi, who brings him coffee. Their conversation gets interrupted by Detective Hotokeyaya, who asks him to stake out the park for some criminals disguised as a couple. Mutsumi joins him on the mission to prevent him from looking like a stalker. They follow their multiple suspects through multiple rides and places but notice nothing out of the ordinary.
While riding the spinning cups, he feels his spy training is preventing him from having proper fun with Mutsumi. He then buys her a rose from the store to help convey his feelings. However, one of the couple’s arguments turns into a fierce shootout, leaving him to clean up the mess. The citizens panic and start running amok, carrying Mutsumi with them. Taiyo saves a kid who is trapped in the cafe, but his gift for Mutsumi gets destroyed.
Taiyo then shoots the couple with his gun and calls Hotokeyaya to come in and apprehend them. Later, Mutsumi and Taiyo ride the Ferris wheel, and she tells him that couples that ride it and the sunset live happily ever after. Taiyo then gives her the rose, which she happily accepts despite the bullet hole. Mission: Yozakura Family episode 5 ends with them staring into the sunset together.
