John Wick Writer Adapting Ordained Comic Into New Action Project

Derek Kolstad, the writer behind 2014’s John Wick, is adapting Ordained into a new action project.

Ordained is a comic from the publisher Bad Idea that is written by Robert Venditti and illustrated by  Raúl Allén and Antonio del Hoya.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kolstad announced at San Deigo Comic-Con that he is adapting Ordained into a new shoot ‘em up project. It’s not immediately clear whether it will be a film or a television series.

“When I read Ordained, I knew I had to adapt it and told Bad Idea they would have to pry it from my cold dead hands,” Kolstad said.

What else do we know about Derek Kolstad’s Ordained project?

Dinesh Shamdasani and Benjamin Simpson are both producing the adaptation for Bad Idea.

“The story centers on a priest who performs last rites at a hospital and one day, gives sacraments to a dying patient,” The Hollywood Reporter’s description reads. “The patient confesses to being the head of the Irish Mafia and spills out his darkest deeds and secrets. When the man makes a miraculous medical recovery, he is quick to return to his old ways and send his men to kill the priest who now knows where all the bodies are buried. Big however: the priest’s collar wasn’t always white as he was once a Navy SEAL who found his faith in the midst of battle. Gangsters, corrupt cops and a police officer who wants to take on the Irish Mafia head will learn what happens when you cross this priest.”

In addition to writing John Wick, Kolstad also worked on a number of the following John Wick sequels, including 2017’s John Wick: Chapter 2 and 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum. He also wrote the screenplay for the Bob Odenkirk action movie Nobody, which was released in 2021.
